OME welcomes new Assistant Director

“I feel a sense of joy returning to Holy Cross.”  A graduate of religious and Africana studies, Chris Campbell returns to Holy Cross as the new assistant director in the Office of Multicultural Education.  “I’m thrilled to be back on the Hill,” Chris exclaims as he expresses excitement to work for OME and “continue the legacy of what has been built” in the past.
Chris describes his first few days at Holy Cross as a “time to get in front of students and find ways to better understand what’s going on.” While he acknowledges an understanding of the Holy Cross student culture, he realizes as well that we are in a “pivotal time,” and a lot has changed since he graduated in 2015.
Chris, who finished his Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration at the University of Vermont, worked as assistant director of residential life at Amherst College in Massachusetts.  His previous assignments at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and Champlain College had enriched his experience of diversity, equity and inclusion work.
His own experiences as a student, says Chris has “ignited my passion to cultivate spaces where people can feel a strong sense of belonging and feel empowered to be their true selves.”  He believes in the value of effective collaboration and partnership with multiple stakeholders, as help to actively “cultivate the social, experiential and cultural capital” of students. Chris believes in being innovative and creative in setting up platforms where students can feel affirmed and seen.   Chris’ joining OME this year completes the department’s thrust to revitalize its operations.  Welcome back to Holy Cross, Chris!
