From ResLife to OME. Welcome Amie!
“I am driven by purpose to support students in their
navigation of the higher education setting and in finding a sense of belonging
on campus through student engagement and identifying ally and mentor
relationships.” - Amie Archambault
The Office of Multicultural Education recently announced
the hiring of former Residence Life and Housing Area Coordinator Amie
Archambault as the new Assistant Director / LGBTQIA+ specialist. Other than primarily being responsible for
LGBTQIA+ services and programs on campus, Amie also takes charge in supporting
the success of first-generation students, promoting meaningful dialogue and
engagement across identity-based differences with the goal of enhancing
cultural competency.
Amie who holds both a bachelor and graduate degrees in Human
Development and Family Studies started out as a community development
coordinator when she first came to Holy Cross in 2017. A
Division I Varsity Scholarship Athlete for softball in her undergraduate years,
Amie advocates for high-impact practices that ensure student success especially
among marginalized communities. She also
looks toward forming and sustaining campus partnerships that build a more
positive campus climate. It takes an
entire village, she says to create change and move communities toward a space
of greater diversity and inclusion.
In her passion to support students from underrepresented
populations, Amie in the past, had participated in LGBTQIA mentor programs and
career trajectory dialogues for students of color, presented talks at the 7th
Annual First-Generation Student Summit and the IgnatianQ conferences, among
others. Amie believes that we all have
to take action and do better as a community. “If we are asking our students to live the
mission, then us as professionals need to as well,” Amie adds.
Responding to the appointment of the new OME assistant
director, psychology and sociology double major Keyshawn O’Connell (Class 2020) believes that
Amie is a perfect fit for the job. “She
will make a tremendous impact where it matters,” says Keyshawn. Amie, according to Keyshawn is lively and
energetic and will be an important source of support for many students. Amie served as Keyshawn’s HCFirst adviser
during his sophomore year.
